Having grown up in Hartford, NY, Dr. Laura moved to Buffalo, where she attended the University of Buffalo. She majored in Bachelor of Science, and later graduated with honors in medicinal chemistry.
While attending the Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, she graduated cum laude with thesis and Latin honors, having minored in prosthodontics and pediatric dentistry. Dr. Laura received various accolades during her tenure in dental school, which include the Academy Of Osseointegration Award, George B. Snow Award in Fixed Prosthodontics, and the Quintessence Award in restorative dentistry 2016 saw Dr. Laura complete her General Practice Residency at Yale University, the Yale-New Haven Hospital.

She has made major strides in the dentistry research field, all because of her belief in always surpassing the current set standards and educating herself beyond that.

Dr. Barres is also a member of several dental organizations; the American Dental Association, Eighth District Dental Society, New York State Dental Association and the International Association for Dental Research.
